Heartland FC were involved in an auto accident in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
The Maze Millionaires are in Maiduguri for their week 35 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match against El-Kanemi Warriors scheduled to hold on Thursday.
According to the Desert Warriors media officier, Anthony Obaseki, Heartland FC arrived Maiduguri safely and the host team sent the team bus to convey Heartland FC to their hotel but ran into a Nigerian Army vehicle.
"It's true that Heartland FC bus had an accident and this is how it happened; we (El-Kanemi Warriors) sent our team bus to convey Heartland FC players and officials to their hotel but they refused to use the bus we provided for them and instead hired a smaller bus.
"Their bus ran into a Nigerian Army vehicle near Ramat Polytechnic. Seven of the players sustained injuries but they have been taken to the Maiduguri medical center though none of the injured were admitted but we can't confirm if they will be able to play on Thursday," Obaseki told Footyalert
However, Heartland FC captain, Chinedu Efugh also confirmed the accident.
" Yes, an accident occurred on our way to the hotel this afternoon. As i'm speaking to you right now, we are all in the hospital and those injured are receiving treatment.
" The management had made plans for a bus because they never knew that the home team will get a bus for the visiting team. Payment has been made so asking for a refund from the transport company wouldn't have been a better option so we used both buses, that is, the one we hired and the one provided by El-Kanemi Warriors.
"The El-Kanemi Warriors bus hit the military car while the one we hired which was right behind also hit the bus. I think the military car stopped suddenly for security reasons, probably to confirm why the bus was following them at close range. So the accident happened immediately they applied the break," Efugh said Footyalert.
